Although the project has a broader focus now, including the dissemination of new job postings and job fairs and a broader resume collection mandate, the WEskills Database project was originally a pilot project launched in 2012 through funding by the City of Windsor.
The original pilot project’s purpose was to collect resumes of laid-off workers with the goal of helping key stakeholders, such as the WindsorEssex Economic Development Corporation, better understand and market the skill sets that are readily available in Windsor-Essex, as well as identify skills gaps for businesses relocating to the region.
Today, the goal remains the same, however, we collect resumes from both unemployed and underemployed individuals who are using partnering employment services and have provided their consent.
Now, the WEskills Database has more than 4,400 resumes in our database and we have shared more than 38,000 individual job postings, job fairs, and training opportunities with our email subscribers.
