The Canadian Cancer Society is currently recruiting volunteer committee members for the CIBC Run for the Cure, which will take place in Chatham on October 6th. We would love to list this opportunity on your site. I realize Chatham may be out of your territory, but most of the committee work can be done remotely, with the exception of an in-person presence required for the event day.

What is the event?
The Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure is a 5k or 1k walk or run. It is the largest single-day, volunteer-led event in Canada in support of the breast cancer cause.
This year’s event will be taking place on Sunday, October 6, 2024.
Committee Member Overview
You are passionate about the breast cancer cause, well-connected in your community, and enjoy event planning. The ideal candidate for this volunteer role has a positive attitude, communication and interpersonal skills, and a strong sense of self-motivation and time management.

As a Wheels of Hope driver, you will be responsible for:
- Responding to requests for client rides from the Transportation Coordinator, ideally via email, and wherever possible being flexible with your schedule as busy days/times/periods change.
- Confirm travel arrangements with client(s) by phone.
- Offer minimal assistance to get clients in and out of the car (no lifting permitted).
- Put client safety first by following safe driving procedures and keeping your license and insurance details updated
- Adhere to all Canadian Cancer Society policies, procedures, standards and guidelines including client confidentiality, role boundaries and our 100% smoke free policy

At the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) we are committed to improving the cancer experience by helping people with cancer live their lives more fully. CCS’s Wheels of Hope program helps people who can’t get to their cancer treatment appointments, providing trips when people need us most. Wheels of Hope drivers not only provide a means for clients to get to their critical cancer treatments, but offer a safe, supportive ride along the way. You’ll become an important part of each client’s support team, so your familiarity with Society programs and services and referring to them as appropriate will ensure everyone has access to the supports they need.

- You understand that cancer can change everything and that accessing critical programs and services creates a whole new level of community.
- You recognize that the Wheels of Hope program requires flexibility, as we respond to the continually changing schedules of current clients and other drivers.
- You enjoy meeting a variety of people and have the patience to deal with the times you may be waiting for a client to finish treatment.
- You can represent CCS positively as you interact with members of the public and are a guest in facilities like Hospitals, Cancer Centres and Lodges.
- You are ready to do your best to make a client’s ride to treatment one less thing they have to worry about, allowing them the space and focus to handle their journey in their own way.
- You are comfortable using online tools, like email and our scheduling software.
- You have a valid driver’s license with 3 or fewer demerit points and an acceptable driving record.
- You carry a minimum of $1M third party liability insurance on your 100% smoke-free vehicle and are willing to have a criminal records check and regular driver abstract checks completed.
Our Investment
As an organization we will provide you with training and support to prepare you for this important role. You will be supported by the Transportation Coordinator, who will be providing your driving schedule and be there to help you throughout your time on the road. You will be part of the larger Wheels of Hope team, including over 1600 volunteer drivers and many staff who share your desire to help as many people as possible get to their treatments.
Your commitment
This is an important leadership role.
- We ask that you dedicate at minimum a half day to one day weekly, although we are able to accommodate those able to give a few days a month or during particular times of the year (ie summer months, winter months).
- Your schedule will be provided three (3) days ahead of time and will depend on busy days/periods, your preferences and client demand. If you’re not getting as many rides as you’re available to take, we ask you to contact your Transportation Coordinator to discuss changing your availability.
- You are agreeing to initiate and respond with regular, consistent communication between the Transportation Coordinator, clients you are scheduled to drive and other partners including other Wheels of Hope drivers. As a volunteer, you are a representative and ambassador who promotes the mission and values of the organization.
CNIB Vision Mates Volunteer
Vision Mates provide regular, one-to-one assistance and companionship for a person who is blind or partially sighted. Matches are made with someone who lives close to your home, school or work. You visit once a week for a couple of hours to assist with tasks like reading, errands (like groceries and shopping), going for walks, and socializing.

We are looking for volunteers to join our team at the Windsor Plasma Donor Centre, 3015 Howard Ave #1. Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older, received the core 2 doses of the covid-19 vaccination, and able to volunteer for at least 12 hours/month for 4 months or longer.
Donor Centre Volunteers – These volunteers greet donors with a smile, make conversation, and support them throughout their donation process. The care and attention you give is often a key reason why donors return. Shifts range between 3-4 hours with morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts.
Awareness and Recruitment Volunteers – These volunteers go into the community to spread awareness and recruit new donors. You will promote the impact of joining Canadian Blood Services and recruit new donors at a variety of events, such as health fairs, outdoor markets, and information tables. To excel in this role, you should be outgoing and enjoy working with people. Shifts and commitment needs will vary depending on the event schedule.

Ensemble is a parent-directed resource for families caring for a child with a disability that provides support from birth through adulthood.
Ensemble was founded in 2000 by two moms whose lives have been affected by their children’s diagnosis of a disability. These moms understood the importance of connecting to others as the first step in helping families cope with the challenges of raising a child with a disability.

Youth Community Action Network (CAN)
There is an exciting opportunity for Windsor-Essex Community youth, age 15-29, to sit on a Youth Advisory with compensation for meeting time of $16.55 per hour. The Youth Advisory will be run by United Way Windsor Essex in partnership with Workforce Windsor Essex to hear from youth with lived experience of challenges with employment. Considering recent restructuring of youth employment services and supports WFWE has applied for and successfully received an Ontario Trillium Grant for two years to design and recommend solutions for employment service gaps to address the employment needs of our region. The foundation of this strategy will be informed by youth voice.
The Youth Advisory will start meeting in June, bi-weekly, at a time that works best for youth. Meetings will be kept under 2 hours and supports such as meals and a hybrid option to attend on zoom will be offered to applicants who are selected for membership in addition to the $16.55/hour.

Due to the application and onboarding process, we ask volunteers to commit to volunteering for a minimum of 4-6 months depending on the program. A placement will be determined by both the volunteer and the Volunteer & Student Coordinator.
The Windsor-Essex County Humane Society (WECHS) is grateful for the compassionate care, dependability, and skills that our volunteers bring to the benefit of the animals in our care. Individuals from our community commit time, talents and donations to assist staff and support the animal programs that allow us to continue the important work that we do in animal welfare in the Windsor-Essex region.
Volunteers are the backbone of the program, helping with the many tasks which may include side walking, leading, farm related chores, cleaning, painting and fundraising.
All prospective volunteers must have a current police clearance with a vulnerable sector screening. You will be asked to commit fully to the weekly therapeutic riding sessions as a horse leader or a side walker. Sessions are usually 11 or 12 weeks in length. Other responsibilities may include farm maintenance, gardening, etc. as needed. All Volunteers are trained before being allowed to handle horses or assist with students during riding lessons. Volunteers are not expected to have any horse experience before attending a training orientation, just a strong desire to learn from our experienced staff.

The Windsor Public Library Book Buddy Program is a volunteer-based literacy program designed to assist children to become great readers by motivating and providing a positive reading experience. The Youth Opportunities Fund (YOF) is recruiting volunteers to be part of their Grant Review Committee (GRC). The YOF provides both grants and capacity-building supports to grassroots groups, community-based organizations and collaboratives focused on improving the wellbeing of youth and families who face multiple barriers.
Informed by their lived experiences and connection to community, GRC members offer unique insights as they review grant applications to make recommendations to the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s Board of Directors for approvals.

The Windsor Symphony Orchestra (WSO) is currently seeking applications from those interested in serving on our volunteer Board of Directors.
The Windsor Symphony Orchestra continues their mission of connecting people through music.
The WSO prides itself on creativity and collaborations. The WSO has achieved its recent successes through its ability to adapt to the ever-changing world and how those changes effect the arts and music culture in Windsor Essex, Ontario. The WSO builds relationships and connections through collaborations with musicians, artists, and composers, locally and internationally, the University of Windsor, St. Clair College, Art Windsor Essex, multiple levels of government, granting agencies and other vital arts and culture stakeholders.
The WSO provides opportunities for volunteers appointed to the Board of Directors or Members of Standing and Ad hoc Committees.
The volunteer Board of Directors provides strategic leadership, governance, establishes policy, and exercises stewardship over the operations and financial performance of the WSO. Our leadership team is imaginative, innovative, and highly effective.
The Board is looking specifically for individuals with the following interests and skill sets:

Directors are expected to:
Prepare for, attend, and participate in 9 board meetings per year, one of which is the Annual General Meeting. Serve on at least one committee and participate actively in the work of the committee and its meetings; include the WSO as a top three personal philanthropic priority; and be an active proponent and supporter for the WSO.
The WSO Board encourages Directors to engage in all activities of the organization, including its performances, benefit activities, and donor/patron support.
Directors are elected at the AGM of the Windsor Symphony Society, which is held annually at the end of October. The term of office is two years, renewable consecutively once for a total of six years. To be eligible for election, individuals must meet the Bylaws requirements, which typically include an annual subscription or donation in an amount of not less than $250.00. If this requirement is prohibitive for an otherwise qualified and successful candidate, the Board would consider making alternative arrangements to satisfy the requirements of the Bylaws.
